It’s almost mid year and everything is running smoothly but I’m still looking for something different. Something that will make 2015 as the best year ever.
I think 6 months of staying relaxed is enough and it’s time to live life to the edge this year so that come December 31st I’ll be popping Moet and partying all night to say ‘cheers!’, not ‘goodbye’ to this year.
The next Breo Hero up for interview is Philippines based downhill skateboarder and boxer Michael ‘Migs’ Enriquez. Visit Migs’ Breo Hero page to read his blog posts and view galleries. Read previous interviews with Breo Heroes Sarah Morton HERE and Elaine Abonal HERE.
How long have you been boxing?
I’ve been boxing for 10 years now. I started when I was in high school.
How did you get involved?
I saw Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez back in 2005, I think. The fight was epic and got me hooked instantly.
Flashback to 2007 the year when long-boarding hit the shores of Philippine islands. 6 months after I became the first ever downhill skateboarding champ in the country. I didn’t even plan on joining that race. The second race happened a few months after and It was an epic race. There was a storm during that time but that didn’t stop us from racing and getting rad. People were crashing hard but we live by the phrase “if you don’t ride in the rain, you don’t ride”. After the race was over everyone was super stoked and I added another championship under my name.
Sponsorship’s were flowing for me. That was a new thing in skate scene here because skateboarding was an underground thing here back in the day. Parties were popping up here and there and everyone know everybody because It was a very tight knit community.
The year 2014 is coming to close really fast. A lot has been checked on my bucket list, how about yours? Downhill skateboarding has taken a backseat to Freestyle Calisthenics in my current routine. I can’t wait to show off some videos. Just give me a month or 2 to polish my style. It’s really fun because its a sport and a workout all in one.
Let me also share to you the gear that i always have with me:
An Iphone with a broken glass at the back haha. I never leave the house without my phone. I think its a must have for all of us boardriders who travel from time to time.
