‘As the last piece of equipment is squeezed into my haul bag I have been reflecting on a busy summer and what lies ahead for the remainder of the year. Tomorrow I depart for The Picos de Europa; a somewhat forgotten area of Spain, located just 20km from the North coast it boasts huge Limestone walls and mountains over 2600m high. Ken and I hope to sample the untouched potential of the area, including climbing on the adventurous Naranjo de Bulnes. After what has been a soggy summer in the Highlands I am very much looking forward to plenty of sunny rock climbing and some good craic along the way. I plan to return toward to Scotland the end of October before jetting off to Asia with my soon to be wife!
At home, the seasons are certainly changing. Leaves are falling, the bracken is brown, it’s cool on the summits and there have been reports of snow falling on Ben Nevis. It’s a great season to be in the Highlands but at the same time I look forward to some quality climbing in Europe and a guaranteed adventure in the Far East. Hopefully I will return to snowy mountain tops and the start of another winter climbing season – it’s all so exciting!’
