Flashback to 2007 the year when long-boarding hit the shores of Philippine islands. 6 months after I became the first ever downhill skateboarding champ in the country. I didn’t even plan on joining that race. The second race happened a few months after and It was an epic race. There was a storm during that time but that didn’t stop us from racing and getting rad. People were crashing hard but we live by the phrase “if you don’t ride in the rain, you don’t ride”. After the race was over everyone was super stoked and I added another championship under my name.
Sponsorship’s were flowing for me. That was a new thing in skate scene here because skateboarding was an underground thing here back in the day. Parties were popping up here and there and everyone know everybody because It was a very tight knit community.
Fast forward to 2012. Everyone was growing up and some people started getting jobs and skating went back to the underground. My crew couldn’t accept it at first because we were rockstars of the skate scene here but eventually we all tried different things. Some started working and some tried out other sports just to keep things fresh.
It’s 6pm in Manila time and views from the past is playing in my head. I thought maybe I should start doing the skate film that I’ve been dreaming about for years now.
I miss hanging out we my co Breo heroes. I remember we had a good talk when we last had dinner but that was a long time ago. I think that was January 2014. I checked out Wiji’s blog and she also wrote about that dinner and when I think of it most of the goals that we set for 2014 were met. It was a good year for all of us.
The best year ever. When 2015 is all set and done that’s what I want to write on my blog. I don’t know why but I have a good feeling that this is it. My backyard skate ramp is a week old and all of the sessions have been epic. Fiesta forever that the theme for this year. ’til next time.
