2015 – So Far So Good

I like a fast start to the year and boy has this one flown by so far… I’m a bit obsessive about planning my training, schedules, events and racing and this year has been no acceptation! Perhaps my most mapped out year to date!

In part this is due to my growth in interest for multi-sport disciplines and re-kindling an old passion in mountain bike racing. I’ve taken on the challenge of competing in the British Cycling 2015 MTB National Series. With every race in the diary and training days worked out for the whole season the weeks have been flying by as I get closer and closer to the first race – 29th March!

The support from Breo is fantastic helping me with travel for training and saving my eyes on more than one occasion from dirt and debris hitting my face during some fast pace rides! Not to mention keeping an eye on the time I’m spending in the saddle using my Breo sports watches.

Just in case you were wondering I certainly haven’t turned my back on Stand up Paddleboarding (SUP) – an activity I love and find incredibly versatile. It’s playing a huge role in cross-training and relaxation right now and I’ve said it before, but if you haven’t already tried SUP I can’t recommend it enough.

It is such an easy way to get out on the water and explore, relax, exercise and be sociable with friends and family and for these reasons will always be a part of my life.

When the MTB racing starts to draw to a close in the mid part of the year I will be ramping up the race training on my SUP and certainly going after some wins in the SUP race scene as well as aiming to get my club, to place on the podium at the SUP clubs national championships.

But for now the focus and determination rests fully on MTB racing. I think in part I have chosen to do this to challenge myself and to take me out of my comfort zone.

Taking the competition element away I would encourage anyone to try a different sporting activity for a huge number of reasons – it’s an opportunity to learn a new skill, experience something new, challenge your abilities, be active and social with others.

So go on, what you waiting for get out there and try a new activity!
